About Mount Eden Electrician

Our registered electricians have been working on Auckland homes and businesses since 2009, and the company is New Zealand owned and operated. We travel the whole city, but most of our days are spent in the central and western suburbs, and Mount Eden sits right in the middle of that patch, between Eden Terrace, Kingsland, Balmoral and Newmarket. The work is a mix of houses and commercial premises: rewiring older homes, replacing switchboards, fitting heat pumps and lighting, and keeping shops and cafes running.

Why Mount Eden homes call us

Mount Eden grew fast. Auckland Council's heritage survey of the area calls it the fastest-growing suburb in the city in the early 1900s, once the trams reached Mt Eden Road and Dominion Road in 1908, and it records that mains electricity only reached most of the district in the 1920s. Plenty of the houses standing today were built before there was power in the street, so their wiring was added afterwards, and a house of that age may have been through several rounds of electrical work since. Before we quote on anything in an older home, we find out what is actually in the ceiling and under the floor.

Then there is the ground itself. When Maungawhau erupted, its lava spread across the valley as far as Khyber Pass Road, Newmarket and Balmoral Road, and the stone walls along so many Mount Eden streets were built from rock dug out of the volcanic cones. A cable that has to go underground, out to a garage, a sleepout or a row of garden lights, is planned around what a spade is likely to hit.

Questions from Mount Eden

Can I get an electrician in Mount Eden after hours?

Yes. Our electricians take call-outs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, weekends included. Call 021 156 4005 and tell us what is happening. More on what counts as urgent is on our 24 hour electrician page.

Which suburbs around Mount Eden do you cover?

All of them. Eden Terrace, Kingsland, Balmoral, Epsom, Newmarket, Three Kings and Sandringham are all regular ground for us, and we work right across Auckland, including the North Shore. Tell us where the job is through our contact page.

Should I have the wiring checked before buying an older home?

WorkSafe suggests that when you buy a house, a licensed electrician or electrical inspector should check the internal wiring. Our electricians can look over the switchboard and the wiring and explain what they find, and we can arrange a licensed electrical inspector if you want a formal inspection.

What paperwork do I get when the job is done?

Completed electrical work is tested, and you receive the certificate the law requires for that kind of work, usually a Certificate of Compliance. Keep it with the house records: it can be asked for by your insurer and when you sell.

The whole street is dark. Do I call you or the lines company?

If the neighbours have lost power too, the fault is most likely on the network, and Vector lists current outages by address. If your house is the only one in the dark, report it to Vector too, because the fuse at the point of supply is usually theirs, and if a breaker will not reset or the power keeps dropping out, call us on 021 156 4005.
